Radiobiological Outcomes, Microdosimetric Evaluations and Monte Carlo Predictions in Eye Proton Therapy

چکیده

CATANA (Centro di AdroTerapia ed Applicazioni Nucleari Avanzate) was the first Italian protontherapy facility dedicated to treatment of ocular neoplastic pathologies. It is in operation at LNS Laboratories Institute for Nuclear Physics (INFN-LNS) and date, 500 patients have been successfully treated. Even though proton therapy has demonstrated success clinical settings, there still a need more accurate models because they are crucial estimation clinically relevant RBE values. Since can vary depending on several physical biological parameters, clear experimental data generate predictions. Establishing database cell survival experiments therefore useful accurately predict effects irradiations both cancerous normal tissue. The main aim this work compare values obtained from in-vitro with predictions made by LEM II (Local Effect Model), Monte Carlo approaches, semi-empirical based LET measurements. For purpose, 92.1 uveal melanoma ARPE-19 cells derived retinal pigmented epithelium were selected irradiated middle SOBP facility. remarkable results show potentiality using microdosimetric spectrum, simulations model not only but also curves.

Dose Assessment of Eye and Its Components in Proton Therapy by Monte Carlo Method

Introduction Proton therapy is used to treat malignant tumors such as melanoma inside the eye. Proton particles are adjusted according to various parameters such as tumor size and position and patient’s distance from the proton source. The purpose of this study was to assess absorbed doses in eyes and various tumors found in the area of sclera and choroid and the adjacent tissues in radiotherap...

Monte Carlo role in radiobiological modelling of radiotherapy outcomes.

Radiobiological models are essential components of modern radiotherapy. They are increasingly applied to optimize and evaluate the quality of different treatment planning modalities. They are frequently used in designing new radiotherapy clinical trials by estimating the expected therapeutic ratio of new protocols. In radiobiology, the therapeutic ratio is estimated from the expected gain in tu...

Assessment of secondary particles in breast proton therapy by Monte Carlo simulation code using MCNPX

Background: The present study aimed to investigate the equivalent dose in vital organs, including heart and lung, due to secondary particles produced during breast proton therapy. Materials and Methods: The numerical ORNL female-phantom was improved and simulated using the Monte Carlo MCNPX code. The depth-dose profile of proton beams with different energies was simulated. The proper energy ran...
